Get to Know Your Overlocker – an evening sewing workshop in our fabulous fabric shop in Bridport, Dorset. Workshops run Thursday evenings from 7-9pm. Learn on your own machine all about threading, needles, machine tension, accessories and more! More details in the additional information tab, check the scheduled date and book below. What you'll learn - Get to know your overlocker
This course covers overlocker basics with essential tips and skills that will enable you to get the best out of your own overlocker machine. You'll learn techniques to help you to become a more confident dressmaker. You'll learn skills that will help when you're sewing furnishings too. The courses run in our fabulously funky Aladdin's cave of a shop in Bridport, Dorset. Small class sizes (usually a maximum of 6) means you can sew in a comfortable, sociable group. This course can cover:- Threading your machine with confidence
- Different seams and finishes
- Techniques for curved seams and corners
- Sewing with stretch and jersey fabrics
- Looking after your overlocker
What to bring to your class: get to know your overlocker
You'll need to bring your own overlocker to the workshop, complete with sufficient thread. We decided to do this because it means you'll learn to sew on the machine you'll be using at home, so you'll be totally confident that you (and your machine) can use your new skills for your next project. Please check your overlocker is functioning well in advance as we don't accept cancellations on these courses. You can book your overlocker in for a service in advance if needed. You will also need to bring the full instruction booklet for your overlocker, to ensure you can learn about your own machine. You'll also need a basic sewing kit, which you'll also need to do your best sewing at home! Bring what you use at home, and remember we stock a huge range of sewing tools, both in our shop in Bridport and online. You'll need to bring the following sewing kit:- Sharp sewing scissors
- Hand sewing needles
- Machine sewing needles
- A quick unpick
- A tape measure
- Sharp dressmaking pins
- Tailor's chalk

Our classes run in the dressmaking room of our fabulous fabric shop in Bridport, Dorset. Classes run in the evening after the shop has closed, so you can learn and sew in peace. Our teacher is the lovely Lynn Horniblow. Lynn is a highly experienced teacher and seamstress who trained on Saville Row and taught and wrote courses for numerous colleges and summer schools. We chose Lynn to teach our evening sewing classes because she's incredibly knowledgeable, practical and patient. We know you'll love her too!
