Sewing workshop: Tote Bag

Make yourself a handy lined tote bag at one of our series of evening sewing workshops.  Book onto our evening sewing classes in the best fabric shop in Bridport, Dorset! Our sewing classes run on a Thursday evening. Our sewing workshops are suitable for beginners or more experienced sewers unless otherwise noted. Tote Bag is a short, focussed workshop designed to allow you to complete a simple project on your very own machine.

What you'll learn

This course covers everything you need to know to complete your tote bag. You'll cover how to cut your fabric to size, making handles from fabric, and completing your tote bag. You'll learn skills that will help when you're sewing other projects too. The courses run in our fabulously funky Aladdin's cave of a shop in Bridport, Dorset. Small class sizes (usually a maximum of 6) means you can sew in a comfortable, sociable group. This course can cover:
  • Measuring and cutting fabric
  • Pattern placement
  • Making handles from fabric
  • Finishing your tote bag project

What to bring to your class: Tote Bag

You'll need to bring your own sewing machine to the workshop! We decided to do this because it means you'll learn to sew on the machine you'll be using at home, so you'll be totally confident that you (and your machine) can use your new skills for your next project. Please check your sewing machine is functioning well in advance as we don't accept cancellations on these courses. You can book your sewing machine in for a service in advance if needed. You'll also need a basic sewing kit, which you'll also need to do your best sewing at home! Bring what you use at home, and remember we stock a huge range of sewing tools, both in our shop in Bridport and online. You'll need to bring the following sewing kit: Additionally you will need half a metre of curtain weight fabric, half a metre of lightweight fabric eg cotton poplin for the lining, and a thread to match your main fabric. We can supply these requirements for you using calico. Please phone the shop to order in advance as you will not be able to purchase this on the night.
