Get to Know Your Sewing Machine – an evening sewing workshop in our fabulous fabric shop in Bridport, Dorset. Workshops run Thursday evenings from 7-9pm. Learn on your own machine all about needles, machine tension, accessories and more! More details in the additional information tab, check the scheduled date and book below. Our sewing classes run on a Thursday evening, Get To Know Your Sewing Machine is a short, focussed workshop designed to get you sewing confidently on your very own machine.

What you'll learn - Get to know your sewing machine

This course covers sewing machine basics with essential tips and skills that will enable you to get the best out of your own sewing machine. You'll learn sewing machine techniques to help you to become a more confident dressmaker. You'll learn skills that will help when you're sewing furnishings too. The courses run in our fabulously funky Aladdin's cave of a shop in Bridport, Dorset. Small class sizes (usually a maximum of 6) means you can sew in a comfortable, sociable group.
  • How to choose the right needle for the project
  • How to set the needle position
  • Getting the tension right
  • Using different feet
  • Looking after your sewing machine

What to bring to your class: get to know your sewing machine

You'll need to bring your own sewing machine to the workshop. We decided to do this because it means you'll learn to sew on the machine you'll be using at home, so you'll be totally confident that you (and your machine) can use your new skills for your next project. You'll also need a basic sewing kit, which you'll also need to do your best sewing at home! Bring what you use at home, and remember we stock a huge range of sewing tools, both in our shop in Bridport and online. You'll need to bring the following sewing kit:

Our classes run in the dressmaking room of our fabulous fabric shop in Bridport, Dorset. Classes run in the evening after the shop has closed, so you can learn and sew in peace. Our teacher is the lovely Lynne Horniblow. Lynne is a highly experienced teacher and seamstress who trained on Saville Row and taught and wrote courses for numerous colleges and summer schools. We chose Lynne to teach our evening sewing classes  because she's incredibly knowledgeable, practical and patient. We know you'll love her too!
