This astoundingly beautiful fabric has given all of the staff here at Livingstones a great deal of angst.
We all love its bright coloursand artistic style and are busy plotting ideas on how to use it to its full potential.
One of us wants a skirt and that would be a great priced piece of clothing at £16.40 as it would only need about half a metre.
Another really wants a sixties swing coat which would look so dramatic, luckily her mum is the talented Meg who owns Livingstones so hopefully she’ll get her wish…watch this space.
I think I’d quite like a pop of colour to go with a purchase from Dorset Arts Week so I might buy a piece for a cushion to give my living room a lift. What would you use it for? Come in to the shop and have a feel, it’s so unbelievably soft.
Amongst racks of dress fabrics at Livingstone Textiles, we’ve got some gorgeous boat prints laying at anchor and waiting for you. Perfect for a shirt, a dress, or a skirt, these are just some of the delightful dress-weight seaside themed prints you’ll find in our shops, so sail by and have a browse!
As an option to our popular vinyl tabling, we now also stock these lovely soft-touch acrylic coated table fabrics. Soft enough to feel almost like a fabric tablecloth and with a stylish matt finish, these fabrics have a stain-proof wipe clean surface, and can even be gently machine washed or dry cleaned to keep them looking good.
The orange flowers on a natural-coloured background and the blue and off-white teacups are both available off the roll in our Bridport shop, while the delicate grey and white flowers and the small vintage rose print are stocked in Yeovil. All the designs can be purchased from both of our shops, and are 138 cm or 54 inches wide, and £14.25 per metre.
Another tabling option is this PVC coated cotton, which is almost as soft, and comes in a cheerful geometric print or subtle almost-plain shades. Also avaiable from both our shops, the print fabric is 132 cm wide and £9 per metre, while the plainer shades are 140 cm wide, and £7.50 per metre.
It’s time to make that summer dress that you just can’t find anywhere in the shops. Our new Look patterns are at a bargain half price and we have some dreamy summer fabrics in stock that you can check out here.
Don’t forget that you can join our pattern club as well to make the most of your sewing collection. For every four patterns you purchase through Livingstones you receive the fifth one free making it five dress patterns for the price of two full priced ones!
With summer around the corner and the hint of sunshine teasing us with its warmth, it’s that time of year for light cotton or even linen clothes to help keep cool and looking summery.
We have a lovely range of 100% cottons in many, many designs from plains to florals or batiks to animals and more. We even have Liberty designs and cotton lawns, so there is plenty to choose from when you’re thinking of adding something to your summer wardrobe.
If linen is more your fabric of choice for the fair weather then we have plenty for you as well, with a colourful range of plain pure irish linens to choose from.
Alternatively, we have a range of linen mixed fabrics, some are cotton and linen unions and others are linen viscose mixed fabrics which are in fact underrated and overlooked by many of the purists who see that there is a viscose content to the fabric and run! However, viscose is a man-made fibre that is manufactured from a plant-based material called cellulose and is typically made from woody plants, such as trees and bamboo. It is a low-cost fabric and has many of the desirable qualities of more luxurious fabrics. It is used to make clothing because it is breathable, drapes well, is highly absorbent and does not trap body heat. Because viscose is made from renewable plants, it is frequently cited as an environmentally friendly fabric, particularly when bamboo is its source. So maybe give linen viscose a chance next time and you’ll be surprised at how cool and comfortable it is!
These fabrics are very hard wearing so are great for upholstery and yet they are still gorgeous as they come in vibrant and eye-catching colours. These fabrics will cheer up any room and give a totally new lease of life to that faded old chair in the corner!
Not only that, but these fabrics also make really wonderful heavy weight curtains, and there is lots of scope for co-ordinating fabrics in your room. For calculating requirements please see our guide to measuring for curtains.
If you have a loved piece of furniture that you would like to give a make-over then we are able to put you in touch with the right person for the job, our upholsters are able to refresh modern and traditional pieces. For more details please contact us.

We wanted to share with you two new wonderful collections of fabric we have to order from our Bridport and Yeovil shops. Part of the iLiv range, these collections provide some fantastic choices for curtains, blinds and upholstery. We also have a selection of designs and colours in stock at Bridport and Yeovil as part of our new autumn range.
This is a range based on a Botanical theme. It includes two different floral designs, Etched Vine and Sketchbook featuring off-white patterns on muted colour backgrounds, one of which also includes birds in flight within the design. These fabrics are suitable for general domestic upholstery, as is the other print, Parchment, which includes seed heads and foliage in a coloured print on a pale background. There is also a leaf themed embroidered fabric, Harper, which can be used for light domestic upholstery. Toning beautifully with the colours in the other fabrics is a check fabric, Shaker, which you could use for cushions, upholster a chair or make a heavier curtain. Finally in this collection, we have a large leaf woven design, Laurie, on a lovely heavy polyester, cotton and viscose mix fabric. This would look fantastic as a door curtain to keep out those pesky draughts, but is not suitable for upholstery. We have a selection of these fabrics in stock at our Bridport and Yeovil stores, and all of them are available to order by the metre. More pictures and details of the various colourways can be seen on the iLiv website.
This is a truly stunning collection which includes traditional floral designs, chenille fabrics and some crewel fabric, which is often very difficult to find. The chenille fabrics are Carnival with a herringbone design and Festival, a brightly coloured stripe. Both are suitable for general domestic upholstery as well as curtains and blinds, and would brighten up any room. Also suitable for upholstery is Byron, a woven check with a small pattern that is not overwhelming. This fabric also looks great on the reverse, where the pattern forms a stripe. The colours tone well with the other fabrics in the range. For prints the collection includes Chiswick, a leaf design and Heritage, a very traditional looking floral and bird design. Again these fabrics can also be used for upholstery. Finally the jewels of the collection are the crewel fabrics. We have Farleigh, a lovely leaf design on a cream background, and Couture which features circles, flowers and leaves on a cotton/linen blend coloured base cloth. These crewel fabrics are suitable for curtains, blinds and cushions but not upholstery. They would certainly add impact to any room. Hummingbird is a fabric design within this range, which really works with the style of printing. The design illustrates butterflies which have been printed in a “watercolour” style with many different subtle colours enhancing the final depth of the design, and the way that this is printed means that all of that is not lost at the printing stage. Hummingbird comes in a range of 4 colours; a pinky colour called Rose Quartz, a blue colour way called Waterfall, another pink one called blossom and a lilac colourway called Hyacinth.
