This is a fabulous fabric with all things sewing related in the design, what more could you want!?
This fabric is a durable polycotton with vibrant colours that make all the beautifully printed sewing instruments stand out. This fabric looks wonderful made up as a roman blind and would also look great as curtains, these would make a perfect addition to any sewing room. It could even be made up into cushions or a bag, as a gift for that sewing enthusiast you know.
There is a vintage theme to the sewing instruments with the iconic Singer sewing machine and vintage mannequin along with the kind of haberdashery you would expect to find in a well-stocked sewing box of maybe your mother or grandmother.
This fabric is available in our Bridport shop or you can purchase it online by following the link below to our web shop.
It’s time to get planning if you’re running a craft stall anywhere this autumn and start making up your Christmas Crafts.
We have 3 lovely Advent calender kits in stock ready for you to make up and a panel of the twelve days of Christmas repeated three times so there are lots of opportunities for card making, stitched gifts and lap quilts.
We also have a great selection of new Christmas fabrics in stock and we are steering away from the more traditional designs. One of our favourites is the navy fabric with the white polar bear constellation across it. The penguins are pretty cute too.
You may already know that we love to be as eco friendly as we can in our stores – we wrote recently about our recycled polyester thread. We would also like to share with you our eco felt, which is made from polyester produced from post-consumer plastic bottles. As you know, the success of recycling all depends on having an end product which uses up the recycled raw materials, and this is a really great example.
This is an inexpensive felt, with a good range of colours and is suitable to sew or glue. It can be used for children’s craft projects but equally is really useful for applique as it does not fray when cut.
In addition as it is an artificial fibre it will melt when heated, which is required for some craft uses. If you need a felt with some wool content you can take a look at our vintage felt range.
This felt is available to buy online by the metre at 36″/90cm width, and also at our Bridport store in 9″ squares. Please click on the link below to see the full range of colours, find out more information or request a sample.
We love our show dummy’s new look, created by one of our talented colleagues here at Livingstone Textiles. She is wearing a kimono made out of one of our oriental fabrics. This fabric has a beautiful pattern of cranes and luxurious gold highlights. It is 100% cotton, 110cm wide and priced at £17.90 per metre. We don’t have much of this specific fabric left (although it may be able to be reordered) so have not listed it on our new website shop. However you can see a selection of our other oriental fabrics below, and you can browse the full oriental cotton collection here.
Our popular beach hut bunting strips are back in stock, so come and get some and get creative!
In the shop we’ve used some of the fabric to make some lovely bunting, with the beach huts alternating with cute little triangle flags that pick out the red. What will you do with yours? we’d love to see pictures of your bunting project!
Beach hut bunting strips are £1.60 for a half strip or £3.20 for a full strip; you can also buy this fabric off the roll for your bigger projects or for curtains and blinds.
This glorious velvet is settling happily on our velvet shelf but we don’t think it will be around for long.
The rich splashes of colour are as enchanting as a Monet painting but that not all. This glorious fabric has the feel of the softest kitten fur. In fact, we don’t just stroke it each time we pass it by, we have been spotted giving it a hug too.
Come into the shop and have a feel for yourself, nothing like seeing the real thing before you buy and luckily for you guys we have a roll in each of our stores 🙂
Our Yeovil store shared this adorable lampshade made with Animal Alphabet fabric!
To get the look, this cute fabric is available in store at £17.85 per metre, and we also sell lampshade kits, so you can easily get a smart, professional-looking finish either with this fabric, or the fabric of your choice.

With all of us becoming very conscious of throwaway plastics and trying to reduce our use and consumption, one of our Bridport team members decided to make up a bag to put her sandwiches in. Made from less than a fat quarter of fabric, she lined it with a ripstop nylon and popped a velcro closure onto the top and bottom of the first two corners that fold over the sandwiches. She then made a button hole in one corner and stitched a button onto the showside of the remaining corner that make a neat little packet when closed together, keeping her lunch fresh and looking very pretty in the staff fridge. Needless to say that we all want one!
Adorable! Look out for her next experiment with waxed fabrics.
With Valentine’s day coming up fast, why not treat yourself to a book full of ideas for some lovely heart-themed projects and quick makes? these projects will also be good for craft fairs, Christmas, or just for making life more pretty all the year round!

To finish it off, indulge yourself by choosing some pretty things from our selection of ribbons and buttons – you’re bound to find something you like!
At Livingstone Textiles we are proud to stock a great selection of linens suitable for dressmaking and curtain making. We hold beautiful soft linens from Russia, rough and slubby linens from Lithuania and beautiful herringbone weaves as well as traditional Irish linens. As well as our regular stock lines in natural colours we can also occasionally source limited colours in gentle washed out greens, oranges, yellows and blues.
We sell a lot of our linen as curtain fabric as its weight allows it to drape beautifully but one or two of our staff members have sewn clothing items from the lighter weights as it hangs really well and below we can share with you a lightweight hoodie that was made from a green/blue linen that was in stock last summer. Sadly this particular colour has not become available again but we still have other colours in stock. Some of our customers also print on our linens and turn them into unique cushions and tea towels.
Is it time for a new blanket for your dog? This new colourway in our soft cuddly fleece is perfect for a luxury dog blanket and you could easily make a dog beanbag out of it as well. Of course, you can use it for other projects as it’s a perfect fabric for dog lovers. Available in both of the Livingstone Textiles fabric shops in Yeovil, Somerset and in Bridport, Dorset.

We’ve also got some fabulous feathers and flapper fringe to give you the Charlston Feel and fur in a rainbow of colours plus ribbons and buttons as well as trouser, skirt and bra extenders if last years outfit is a tad unforgiving.
This gorgeous two-way sequin fabric is new into both Livingstone Textiles Bridport and Livingstone Textiles Yeovil and just in time for Christmas!
This fabric can change colour with just a brush of the hand so you can have two colours on the same fabric. This allows you to draw designs or simply choose which colour you would like to see. Once you have started though you cannot stop, so come into our Bridport or Yeovil shop to see for yourself!
This would be great for cushions, as a Christmas present or even a jazzy addition to a party dress.
One of our customers brought in their latest make last week and we wanted to share it with you. This lovely bag is made with one of our range of tapestry fabrics, which gives a great heavyweight strong bag. The bag has a bright colourful striped lining as well.
Also inside the bag is this delightful fishy purse, when you open up the purse you find another insert for your coins. The detail and work in this make is just great.
If this has inspired you to make your own, or maybe a thoughtful home-made present for a friend or family member, why not pop into our shops in Bridport, Dorset or Yeovil, Somerset to see our range of craft fabrics? There is sure to be something perfect for almost anyone you could care to mention.

Lots of you have been in this week to buy shimmery, sparkly, witchy fabrics for costumes not only for your little ones but for yourselves as well. Don’t forget to take extra care with shop bought costumes as many man-made fabrics are highly flammable.
If you are at all concerned, it’s not too late to pop in to the Bridport Shop and buy our Flame Retardant Spray, suitable for home application, it makes these synthetic fibres a lot safer when the instructions are followed correctly and we’ll issue you with a fire certificate as well. It’s also a legal requirement for any fabrics in public buildings to be flame retardant treated, including curtains, stage sets and costumes. Worth bearing in mind if you’re currently rehearsing for panto season. We’ve seen evidence of a lot of pumpkin carving going on as we’ve traveled to and from Livingstone Textiles from across West Dorset. Have a great time tonight and stay safe, whatever your plans.

We are very proud of our country and particularly our farming roots in Dorset and so when every year the county holds The Great Dorset Steam Fair some of us go a little tractor crazy.
The Great Dorset Steam Fair has been running in Dorset for 49 years, the show started small as an event where people could come and see how people lived and work in years gone by. The show is now widely recognized as a National Heritage show as well as being regarded as the leading show of its type world wide. Now because of its huge size and reputation, people visit and travel with their vintage exhibitions from all over the country and the world. The Great Dorset Steam Fair is now thought to be one of Europes biggest shows.
As mentioned above some of our members of staff (being collectors themselves) go a little crazy when it comes to tractors and vintage machinery so it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to you all that we have a few tractor and farm like fabrics within our two shops. Our longest standing member of staff is a farmers wife as is our manageress at Livingstone Textiles, Yeovil.
This first fabric is a lightweight cotton with beautiful and vivid illustrations of vintage tractors at work. This fabric really takes you back to years gone by and how the fields were worked with these beautiful old machines. This fabric is only available at our Bridport Dorset store but can be ordered from Yeovil Somerset. It is an ideal weight for patchwork and dressmaking.
The second fabric tractor fabric we have in stock is a curtain weight material, it is a lot heavier than the cotton one above and work make ideal curtains, cushions and blinds although it is not quite heavy enough to upholster with. This fabric features a range of tractors in more of a sketchy artist way, slightly more cartoon-like. This is a fun design that work be ideal for a tractor crazed child (or adult!). This fabric, similar to the one above shows the tractors at work in the fields and also puts the mind back to years gone by.
If you are traveling down for The Great Dorset Steam Fair, why not have a day out from the vintage work and come and see our vintage inspired fabrics in our Bridport Shop and take some of the Dorset Life home with you.
If you would like any information on the fabric mentioned in this post please contact us with your details and the information you require.
This beautiful collection of fabric would add a warm country feel to any room in your house with beautiful colours and a wide range of patterns. This collection comes with 8 designs, 4 of which are printed, 2 plain colours, a check and a stripe. The collection comes in 6 different colourways, varying from warm oranges to calm and cooling heathers and lilacs. Some of these designs are ideal for curtains blind and cushions being the perfect weight for the right hang for this, whereas some are upholstery weight with Martindale rub test of either 33,000 or 15,000.
One of the lovely things about these designs is the way they perfectly contrast, they have been designed to work together adding to each other colours and warmth. However, these designs work well on their own too, as a stand alone fabric. The tartan designed fabric would upholster beautifully with a 33,000 Martindale rub test and would contrast with any of the patterned printed fabrics in its colourway collection, as is illustrated above in the images. The beautiful watercolor style in which the patterned printed fabric has been designed adds a depth to the final design of the pattern giving the fabric more interest.
The plain fabrics might be plain but are not without interest, each has a beautiful strong weave to the fabric making it both strong and giving it a esthetically pleasing look. This fabric has a Martindale rub test of 15,000.
The stripe is another interesting addition to the collection with its herringbone weave. With this design the stripe is woven not printed which adds to the final look of the cloth. This fabric has a Martindale rub test of 15,000.
All of these fabrics are a polyester or a polyester cotton mix.
All of these fabrics are available to see in both our shops in Bridport Dorset and Yeovil Somerset. If you would like any more information on any of these fabrics please contact us and we will be happy to help.
