Made to Measure Curtains
If you are looking for high quality hand sewn curtains or soft furnishings for your home, we can fulfill your needs with our local curtain makers in Dorset and Somerset. Our prices are very competitive within the area and nationally, and are based on the number of widths (or drops) of fabric used within the curtains. Our highly skilled professional curtain makers will hand finish your curtains to your specification, and for local properties a visit for a final measure can be arranged.
You can call in to either of our showrooms, located in Bridport, Dorset and Yeovil, Somerset to browse our extensive range of curtain fabrics available from stock, or view a selection of our fabrics online. We also have a wide range of sample hangers, and are happy to spend time helping you choose the right fabric for you. The sample hangers can be borrowed for a small cash deposit for you to finalise your choice. We will prepare a no obligation quote for your chosen fabric from your measurements. We will need the width of your track or pole and the finished length you would like the curtains to be. Please see our curtain measuring guide for further instructions. You can choose from our range of curtain linings, and a wide variety of different curtain headings – see a selection of the possibilities below. Curtains can also be made up with non-standard linings, such as ticking, giving a great look from outside the window also. For warmth and a luxury finish, you can have your curtains interlined with either polyester or cotton curtain bump. This makes the curtains feel heavier at the window and adds to their insulating effect. It can be particularly beneficial for lighter weight luxury fabrics such as silk.
If you need a home visit to consider possibilities for your interior, we are happy to work with Bronwen Feather of Feather Interiors. She will visit your home on a paid basis, with either a telephone consultation followed by one visit, or two visits to firstly consult and then bring our samples to your home. A full quote will be provided for your chosen fabrics and finish, made up as agreed.
Roman Blinds Made
Roman Blinds are a beautiful way to hang fabrics, when pulled out the fabric lies flat showing off the fabric without any gathers .This is a really nice way to show off a decorative fabric, and gives a modern, unfussy finish. They are also ideal for windows that have limited space for pulling back curtains. The folds are achieved by a series of rods which make the layering effect of the blind when the cords are pulled. All roman blinds are made with child safety devices fitted as standard to comply with the law and protect children from entanglement.
Roman Blinds are a great alternative to a roller blind, giving a softer finish and helping to reduce echoes in the room. Roman Blinds can be trimmed with a variety of different finishes such as pompoms or braid, and a wonderful effect can be achieved by edging the blinds with a contrasting plain fabric. This can have the effect of making the window look taller, so can be a good choice for a wide window. Again your Roman blind can be made with a variety of linings, or a second show fabric on the rear. Most fabrics are suitable for making roman blinds unless they are very heavy. Again interlining can be used to add weight and warmth. Blackout lining can also be used, either as the main lining or as an interlining, and a stab stitch finish may be used to reduce light leakage through the stitching. Where light is a problem, roman blinds give the best coverage, especially if fitted close against the window within the reveal.
Roman Blinds can be used on their own at a window, or be teamed with curtains for further softness. These could be dress curtains, which are not wide enough to pull but give the look of curtains at the window.
Roman blinds can be hung on a batten as shown above, or using a cassette system, which gives a clean modern finish and removes the need for loose cords and a cleat. On a cassette system the blind is pulled using a chain, which can be fitted at either side to suit your room.
Boxed Cushions and Scatter Cushions
As well as curtains, our makers can make cushions for you in co-ordinating or contrasting fabrics. You can choose from simple cushions that dress your furniture ready to be changed with the seasons or, when you require a more fitted cover, we can make you a boxed cushion.
Scatter cushions are a great way for decorating your home, adding a blast of colour or modernizing a old sofa. These can be made piped or plain, with a zip or as an envelope cushion.
They make great window seat or bench seat cushions in the home and we can also make them for your caravan, your boat or even your shepherds hut and will even pipe them for you on request. All our covers are made with a zip, enabling you to simply remove them for washing.
See also our Upholstery page for details of this service, if you need more than loose cushions for your furniture.
